World War II Memorial Plaque

Plaque dedicated to all the members of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War II.

My dad, William F. Horosz Sr, was Chief Elder of the church at that time and he and other dedicated church members were instrumental in getting this plaque placed at the entrance to the cemetery.
My dad was great friends with all of them. He would shed a tear every time he heard their names. My mother knew them as well.
They are:
William Chontos
Joseph Galyas
Ernest Katona
Daniel Kontra
John Matta, Jr.
Joseph Trenka, Jr.
None of them returned.
We owe them a debt we can never repay.
So this Memorial Day please think of these six young men and the incredible price they paid.

Eternal Father

"Eternal Father Strong To Save" is also known as "The Navy Hymn". Posting this to all United States Sailors who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

"Fair winds and following seas"

"We have the watch

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard
And hushed their raging at Thy word,
Who walked'st on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

O Trinity of love and power!
Our brethren shield in danger's hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect them wheresoe'er they go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea."
